Let’s be completely honest: by the time July rolls around, the school holidays are looming like a logistics exam we didn’t study for. The grand visions of tranquil family hikes and serene evenings by the camper van have usually been replaced by the reality of soggy socks, backseat bickering, and the baffling realization that a weekend away requires packing more gear than a polar expedition.

But don’t retreat indoors just yet. The UK’s late summer is packed with incredible outdoor events designed to help you recharge your solo batteries, build fire shelters with the kids, or watch ponies gallop at terrifying speeds.

We’ve done the legwork and picked four of the absolute best events happening across the UK over the next two months (July and August 2026). Grab a cup of lukewarm coffee, check the dates, and start planning your escape.

1. Latitude Festival 2026

  • When: 23rd–26th July 2026

If the thought of taking kids to a music festival makes you break out in a cold sweat, Latitude is here to change your mind. Tucked away in Henham Park’s rolling Suffolk countryside, this festival is famous for being incredibly welcoming to families. While you might be there for the stellar music, comedy, and arts lineup, the kids will be completely occupied by the award-winning Kids Area, the Inbetweeners Teen Area (featuring tech workshops and outdoor survival skills), and the mesmerizing sight of the iconic multi-colored sheep grazing by the lake.

You can swim in the lake, take part in family yoga, or wander through the woods under a canopy of fairy lights. It’s vibrant, safe, and has dedicated family camping fields with slightly saner noise levels.

The Real Talk: Henham Park is absolutely massive. If you are navigating this with toddlers, your arms will fall off before lunchtime. Do not rely on a standard stroller. Bring a heavy-duty, collapsible festival wagon. Fill it with blankets, fairy lights, and snacks, and you have a mobile bed, a gear packhorse, and a containment unit all in one.

2. RunThrough Trails: Brecon Beacons

  • When: 8th August 2026
  • Where: Talybont-on-Usk, Brecon Beacons, Wales
  • Best For: Solo adventurers, trail runners, and parents needing a serious reset

Let’s face it, sometimes the best way to be a supportive, patient parent is to leave the family behind for a few hours and run up a mountain. The RunThrough Trails Brecon Beacons event is the ultimate solo playground. Starting in the quiet village of Talybont-on-Usk, you can choose between a challenging 24K half-marathon or a brutal, beautiful 51K ultra-marathon.

If you choose the 51K, you’ll tackle a route that takes you straight up Pen y Fan (the highest peak in South Wales at 886m), along dramatic ridge lines, past scenic reservoirs, and down the Monmouthshire Canal. It is technical, quad-burning, and absolutely spectacular.

The Real Talk: The Brecon Beacons weather does not care that it is August. You can start in a sunny valley in a t-shirt and find yourself in a wind-whipped, freezing fog bank on the ridge an hour later. The mandatory safety kit list (waterproof jacket/trousers, map, compass, survival bag, whistles) is not optional. Pack it, know how to use it, and respect the mountains.

3. MGAGB Southern MGA Polo Festival

  • When: 15th–16th August 2026
  • Where: Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, Windsor, Berkshire
  • Best For: Pony parents, equestrian speed demons, and fans of high-energy spectator sports

For the “Pony Dads” and “Climbing Moms” who spend their weekends driving horse boxes and cleaning tack, the Southern MGA Polo Festival is a highlight of the summer. Mounted games are essentially gymkhana on fast-forward. Riders vault on and off galloping ponies, weave through poles at breakneck speeds, and drop tennis balls into cones with precision that defies gravity.

Held at the prestigious Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club near Windsor, this event brings together some of the best young riders in the country. It is fast, loud, and incredibly exciting to watch, making it a fantastic inspiration for kids learning to ride (and a great spectator day out for anyone who loves horses).

The Real Talk: The polo club sounds fancy, but don’t pull out the high heels. Mounted games fields are dusty, muddy, and horse manure is an inevitable part of the scenery. Pack your muddy wellies, lightweight camping chairs, a windbreaker, and a massive thermos of tea. If the British weather turns, that horse trailer parking field will require some serious 4x4 action to get out of.

4. Camp Kindling 2026

  • When: 21st–24th August 2026
  • Where: Sevenoaks, Kent
  • Best For: Forest-school fans, active families, and campers who want to learn new tricks

Imagine a classic summer camp, a woodland retreat, and a music festival had a baby. That is Camp Kindling. Set in a gorgeous forest estate in Kent, this event is all about participation. Families join “patrols” (complete with patrol scarves) and spend the weekend booking into activities. We aren’t talking about simple coloring pages; kids and adults can try their hand at shelter building, fire lighting, archery, zip lines, woodcrafts, and even axe throwing.

As the sun goes down, the camp transitions into live music, comedy, and craft beer bars under the trees. It’s a fantastic, low-stress environment where kids learn independence and parents get to play too.

The Real Talk: Camp Kindling 2026 is officially sold out on their main site. However, they run an official community ticket marketplace where face-value tickets pop up as parents realize they can’t make it. If you can’t snag one there, sign up for their 2027 pre-sale immediately. This is the gold standard for stress-free family camping.
